Malnutrition is a problem across the globe.
Two-time Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling said, “you can trace every sickness, every disease, and every ailment to a mineral deficiency.”
And although it’s more of a challenge to keep up with good nutrition practices, it’s far from impossible for most people with the right resources. But what about those that don’t have the opportunities or resources to do so? What happens to them? What happens to their potential?
We want to put the spotlight on Vitamin Angels – a non-profit organization that is helping underserved populations gain access to life-changing nutrition solutions.
The Cycle of Malnutrition
Without sufficient nutrition, many acute problems may arise. And those can lead to long-term issues which may be passed on genetically. There are 8 billion people on the planet. Over 3 billion people are at risk of malnutrition.
Proper nutrition for the first 1,000 days of life is crucial. Poor nutrition during this 1,000-day window can increase chances of chronic diseases, health problems, and developmental stunting.
Without proper intervention, the cycle continues.

What Does Vitamin Angels Do?
Vitamin Angels is a non-profit that is driven to help the nutritionally vulnerable by providing the right solutions. They are focused on helping pregnant women, infants, and children.
They target the first 1,000 days, which starts with pregnancy. This time encompasses a period of fast growth. Vitamin Angels provides pregnant women access to multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) or prenatal vitamins and minerals. They also provide nutrition counseling and essential tools to establish access, acceptance, and uptake.
Vitamin Angels also provides support following birth. They design and execute nutritional counseling programs to upgrade the nutrition of maternal and young children. The plan includes breastfeeding and complementary nutrient-rich foods.
The non-profit also supports early childhood growth. They offer access to vitamin A and Albendazole, helping children boost their immune systems, prevent blindness, ensure optimal child health, and more. And they also provide feeding and nutrition counseling for pregnant women.
With their comprehensive support of mothers and children from pregnancy to early childhood, Vitamin Angels allows children the opportunity to live up to their full potential.
